Transportation
For just $1.00 a ride, the Main Street & Riverfront Trolley Line can take you just about anywhere you'd want to go in Downtown Memphis. Over one million riders each year use trolleys, which make a five-mile loop along Main Street and the Mississippi River. A new $56 million trolley line expansion along Madison Avenue now connects Downtown to the Memphis Medical Center.
The Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) operates two bus transfer and park-&-ride facilities in Downtown Memphis. The facilities are located at the northern and southern ends of Main Street. In addition to an extensive trolley service, MATA operates the new No. 6 route, which serves Harbor Town and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, as well as a convenient Downtown-Airport Shuttle (DASH), which runs continuously from major Downtown hotels to Memphis International Airport, only 15 minutes away.

The UT-Baptist Research Park is located a block from the I-240 loop, making highway access to I-55 and I-40 less than five minutes away.
Memphis International Airport is the world's largest cargo airport and offers unprecedented overnight services and direct access to international markets. The airport is also a hub for Northwest Airlines, with direct service to more than 90 cities in North America and daily service to Europe.

More than 450 retailers call Downtown home, and they include stores for rare antiques, upscale men's and women's clothing, unique home accessories, amazing original art, fresh flowers, gourmet housewares, and outdoor furnishings. South Main offers one of the most intriguing shopping areas in the region with fabulous furnishings, a farmer's and crafts market, art galleries, and a growing center for designer women's fashions.
The 300,000-square-foot Peabody Place Entertainment & Retail Center includes GAP and Baby GAP, Tower Records, Ann Taylor Loft, Victoria's Secret, Coco & Lilly, and a 22-screen theater. Restaurants include Dan McGuinness, Encore, Isaac Hayes Restaurant & Nightclub, Jillian's, and Texas de Brazil. And no retail center is complete without a Starbucks.

Banking
Memphis is the center of banking and financial activities for the Mid-South. First Horizon National Corporation and its banking division, First Tennessee, are headquartered in Downtown Memphis. The city is also home to numerous smaller regional banks and is the Mid-South headquarters for national and regional banking firms. Area Attractions
Downtown Memphis has many attractions from historic to athletic. Museums and historic sites include the Memphis Rock 'N' Soul Museum, the new Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the internationally renowned National Civil Rights Museum, Sun Studio, and Beale Street. AutoZone Park is home to the AAA Memphis Redbirds, which consistently set Minor League Baseball attendance records. Memphis Grizzlies and The University of Memphis Tigers hoop it up at FedExForum. The Orpheum Theatre is the Memphis stopping point for Broadway touring shows, and The Cannon Center for the Performing Arts hosts the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.
Approximately 300 acres of continuous parks and pedestrian walkways exist Downtown, adjacent to the river. Tom Lee Park and the Mud Island Greenbelt Walkway afford opportunities to walk, bike, and run at the river's edge on more than 2.5 miles of city-owned paths, while the River Bluff Walkway provides a spectacular view of the Mississippi from its 1.2-mile path, high on the bluffs.
For those who like to get on the river, the historic cobblestone wharf provides docking facilities for tour boats, while two marinas offer docking for private boats. Kids of all ages can really get their feet wet at the Mud Island River Park, which offers a walkable scale model of the river, the Mississippi River Museum, and acres of open space.
