  • Classrooms, seminar rooms, scientific laboratories, computer labs, conference rooms, clinical learning center, technology center, staff offices, and storage areas.

Regional Biocontainment Laboratory

  • Total budget: $21.9 million.
  • $14 million NIAID Agreement for bioresearch from National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
  • Used for bio and microbiological research on regional and national level.
  • Will consist of a suite of highly secure biosafety laboratories, as well as space for training, security, and support.
  • Groundbreaking scheduled for November 2006, and completion is scheduled for spring 2008. The Regional Biocontainment Laboratory will have approximately 30,880 gross square feet.
  • BSL-2 and BSL-3 space.
  • Local research partners include Memphis Bioworks Foundation, Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Memphis Medical Center, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Shelby County Health Department, and Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center. The Jackson Laboratory of Bar Harbor, Maine, will also partner with the university on select projects.
